Emmy-winning actors Jennifer Coolidge and Brian Cox, both whom have been effectively dominating Hollywood lately thanks to two of the biggest shows on television, are actually about to come together on an all new feature project. Per a report from Deadline, they’re set to join Dustin Hoffman and Gabrielle Union on a new crime comedy film from Dito Montiel titled Riff Raff, a truly unique collaboration of talent that’s sure to get plenty of attention.
Riff Raff, set as a crime comedy, is the latest directorial endeavor from Dito Montiel, who previously worked on drama film A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006), which starred the likes of Shia Labeouf, Channing Tatum, and Robert Downey Jr before his MCU debut. The script for the new feature is being written by John Pollono. Producers include Noah Rothman, and Sarah Gabriel and Marc Goldberg of Signature Films, while executive producers are Pollono, Adam Paulsen, Matthew Lesher, Chris Dennis, and Christian Mercuri. As previously mentioned, starring in the film are The White Lotus alum Jennifer Coolidge and Succession’s Brian Cox, both whom are also serving as executive producers. Alongside them are Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man) and BET Award winner Gabrielle Union (The Inspection). No additional casting has been announced yet, and filming is set to begin this September.
Plot details for the film are still largely under wraps, but the known premise so far revolves around a former criminal’s ordinary life, which gets uprooted when his former family, likely the one who he embarked with on not-so-legal escapades, shows up for a reckoning he’s not ready for.
Producer Marc Goldberg said of the exciting new project:
“We are thrilled to partner with the producers and Dito on this project; we’ve loved it ever since we’ve read it. It embodies the type of crime comedies we grew up with – witty and entertaining. Not to mention the perfect cast that will bring these colorful characters to life.”
What is Next to Come For Coolidge and Co.
As many know, Brian Cox is hot off the speeding train from award-winning HBO drama Succession, which just reached its tumultuous conclusion after four incredible seasons. Despite that, he’s certainly not coming to a halt anytime soon. Alongside this new comedy feature, he’ll be lending his voice to characters in the animated fantasy film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and the Russo Brothers’ big budget Netflix film The Electric State. He’ll also be starring with the likes of Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Lisa Kudrow (Friends), and Edie Falco (Avatar: The Way of Water) in upcoming horror-comedy The Parenting. On top of all that, he appears opposite Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) in Prisoner’s Daughter.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Coolidge has been in numerous headlines for her captivating performance in the first two seasons of HBO’s dark dramedy The White Lotus, which has since earned her a number of accolades. She’s also currently starring in the Netflix thriller series The Watcher, and appeared alongside David Harbour (Stranger Things) and Anthony Mackie (Captain America: New World Order) in this year’s supernatural horror comedy We Have a Ghost. She’s also set to reprise her role as Paulette alongside Reese Witherspoon’s iconic Elle Woods in the long-awaited Legally Blonde 3 sequel.
Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman recently wrapped filming on Francis Ford Coppola’s epic science fiction film Megalopolis, which made headlines over its gargantuan budget that almost killed the production altogether until Coppola stepped in to personally finance the passion project. Gabrielle Union will soon be appearing in Netflix’s romantic comedy film The Perfect Find.
