Jennifer Coolidge and Eddie Kaye Thomas Became Roommates After American Pie

American Pie co-stars Jennifer Coolidge and Eddie Kaye Thomas spent some time as roommates, but life did not imitate art, as the relationship stayed platonic. That’s what Coolidge says in a new interview with British GQ, recalling how she once roomed with Thomas after the two had met on the set of American Pie. She says the two lived together in Los Angeles in the early 2000s, but while the characters they played may have gotten intimate in the fictional world of American Pie, the two dated separately when they were roommates.

“I wasn’t the love of his life,” Coolidge recalls with a chuckle. “He had girlfriends. My bedroom was across the hallway from his.”

In the first American Pie film, released in 1999, Coolidge plays Jeanine Stifler, the mother of Steve Stifler (Seann William Scott). Much to the chagrin of Steve, Thomas’ Paul Finch, aka “Sh*t Break,” manages to seduce Jeanine, losing his virginity in the process. The characters reunite for more intimate encounters in both American Pie 2 and American Wedding, though in American Reunion, both Jeanine and Paul have found new girlfriends, having finally ended their complicated relationship.

Will Jennifer Coolidge Return as Stifler’s Mom?

More recently, Coolidge has been impressing with her role in the HBO series The White Lotus. It’s a role that earned her both a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award. American Pie co-star Tara Reid is rooting for Coolidge and hopes that this critical acclaim and renewed attention to the actress will help get the long-gestating American Pie 5 off the ground.

“Jennifer is a comedic genius and so sweet. She loved American Pie. We all did,” Reid said on Australia’s Studio 10 in January. “Come on, Jennifer, you’re a powerful woman right now! Push [American Pie 5] forward.”

When Coolidge won her Golden Globe for The White Lotus, she even teased in her acceptance speech that she was willing to play Stifler’s long for as long as she was asked, no matter how many movies have already been made.

“Five different sequels of American Pie, I milked that to the bone, and I’m still going for six or seven – whatever they want,” Coolidge said.

Coolidge’s American Pie son, Seann William Scott, also recently teased a fifth film featuring the main gang.

Aside from the main films, all four of which have featured Coolidge, a slew of straight-to-video movies have also been made. Eugene Levy was featured in four of them: 2006’s Band Camp, 2007’s The Naked Mile, 2007’s Beta Hous, and 2009’s The Book of Love. He didn’t appear in the last installment of the franchise, 2020’s American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules.

“It would be so much fun to see, I think, fun, but also really fascinating to see a guy like Stifler in his mid-forties today trying to figure things out,” Scott told ComicBook.com in May. “A guy who hasn’t really changed that much, but the world has changed, you know, what would his life be like? … Is there a fun end to a story? I don’t know if it’ll ever happen.”
