There was no awkwardness between Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as they posed together on the red carpet, not long after it was revealed he was paid $5million (£3.7m) more than her for their new movie.
Jennifer, 31, joined her co-star Leo, 47, at the New York premiere of their anticipated blockbuster Don’t Look Up on Sunday.
The Oscar-winning actress shone bright on the red carpet wearing a dazzling sheer gold gown which elegantly draped over her baby bump – Jennifer is pregnant and expecting her first child with husband Cooke Maroney.
Leo kept it smart and dapper with a dark blue suit and tie and his hair neatly slicked back.
The actors happily posed together for photos and joined each other for interviews with reporters on the red carpet, while also being pictured laughing around together at one point.
It comes after Jennifer addressed reports that she was paid a whopping $5m less than her male co-star to star in the film, despite being billed as the lead actor and the script being written with her specifically in mind.
Speaking in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer was asked about the pay discrepancy, and she insisted she is ‘very happy’ with her deal. The deal in question is a pay slip of $25m (£18.7m) to star in the flick, an absolutely mind-blowing amount of money for most people, but still significantly less than co-star Leo.
He was paid $30m (£22.4m), meaning Jennifer was paid 83 cents for every dollar given to Leo.
When asked about the deal, Jennifer admitted she ‘saw’ the pay discrepancy but appeared to accept that ‘Leo brings in more box office than I do’.
She added: ‘I’m extremely fortunate and happy with my deal.’
Jennifer, who won the best actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook in 2013, acknowledged that it’s ‘extremely uncomfortable’ for women to ‘inquire about equal pay’.
‘If you do question something that appears unequal, you’re told it’s not gender disparity but they can’t tell you what exactly it is,’ she said.
Don’t Look Up, a comedy, comes from writer and director Adam McKay – best known for The Big Short, Anchorman and Stepbrothers – and follows a student astronomist and her professor (Jennifer and Leo) after they make the shocking discovery that a comet is heading straight for earth.
Don’t Look Up will be released in selected cinemas from December 10 and will stream on Netflix from December 24.
