Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about the two miscarriages she has suffered in her life – one of which occurred when she was in her early twenties, having been originally planning to terminate the pregnancy.
Speaking in an interview with Vogue, Jennifer talked about the impact of the Roe vs Wade ruling in the United States while remembering her own experiences. She revealed that she had been intending to get an abortion, but told her interviewer Abby Aguirre: “I had a miscarriage alone in Montreal.”
The actor also revealed that before she fell pregnant with her son Cy – confirming his name during the interview – she also suffered a miscarriage while filming Don’t Look Up. Jennifer underwent a D&C procedure (dilation and curettage, a surgical procedure to remove tissue from the cervix) at the time.
Reflecting on her experiences in the wake of the abortion ban in the US, Jennifer added that she felt even more strongly about the right to abortion now she is a parent herself.
“I remember a million times thinking about it while I was pregnant,” she said. “Thinking about the things that were happening to my body. And I had a great pregnancy. I had a very fortunate pregnancy. But every single second of my life was different. And it would occur to me sometimes: What if I was forced to do this?”
The star features on the cover of the October issue of Vogue to mark the upcoming release of her new film, Causeway – the first with her own production company, Excellent Cadaver.
Jennifer Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney welcomed their son in February 2022 – and though they are keen to keep their family life private, the actor did talk a little about her life as a new mum.
“The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my whole life had started over. Like, ‘Now is day one of my life’. I just stared. I was just so in love. I also fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing. They’re these pink, swollen, fragile little survivors. Now I love all babies. Now I hear a baby crying in a restaurant and I’m like, ‘Awwww, preciousssss’.”
Cute.
