Jennifer Lopez seems to snap at Ben Affleck at the Grammys as he radiates ‘misery’

Jennifer Lopez may be wishing she’d left Ben Affleck at home Sunday night, given the way he appeared to upset her at the 2023 Grammys with something he whispered in her ear, and he generated countless memes by looking bored, exhausted or miserable the rest of the evening.

The initial tense exchange between the newlyweds showed Affleck saying something in his new wife’s ear, as the show’s host, Trevor Noah, sat next to her. Whatever the actor whispered, Lopez jerked away and appear to snap something at him in response. Affleck, 50, then frowned and straightened his vest and posture, as it dawned on him that the awkward moment was caught on camera.

Lopez, 53, made her expression go blank as she, too, realized that whatever passed between them was likely to end up on social media. The image-conscious actor and singer then tried to make it appear that she was engaged in the excitement around her as she turned to Noah. She tried to keep up the appearance of having a good time, and wore a big smile on her face as she presented Harry Styles the Best Pop Vocal Album for “Harry’s House.”

People on Twitter and TikTok immediately flooded the platforms with comments and questions about what was going on with Lopez and Affleck.

Someone on Twitter captured a micro-second during which Affleck winced and looked aggrieved as he turned his gaze directly into the camera.

Someone on TikTok referred to Affleck’s ex-wife with the quip: “Jennifer Garner at home eating popcorn like …. “Girlllllll he’s your problem now.’” Another TikToker said about the moment Lopez she realized she was on camera: “HER FACE WHEH SHE SAW THE CAMERA LOL.”

On Twitter, people also remarked on Affleck looking miserable.

Ever vigilant about keeping up appearances, Lopez took to Instagram Monday to gush about Affleck and post happy-looking highlights from their Grammy night out: “Always the best time with my love, my husband,” she captioned the post.

Affleck and Lopez exchanged vows twice last summer, cementing a Hollywood love story going back decades. They first dated in the early 2000s and became engaged, but called off their wedding due to the extraordinary media focus on their relationship. They each married other people — he married Garner and Lopez married Marc Anthony — and started families before going through divorces, other romances and his high-profile struggles with his career and with alcohol abuse. They finally reconnected in the spring of 2021 after she ended her engagement to Alex Rodriguez.
