In the wake of Jeremy Clarkson writing a controversial column for The Sun in which he wrote that he hated Meghan Markle and accused her of “talking b*llocks,” his daughter Emily Clarkson has spoken out against his words.

Sharing a short statement on her Instagram Story, the podcaster and body positivity advocate wrote: “My views are and have always been clear when it comes to misogyny, bullying and the treatment of women by the media. I want to make it very clear that I stand against everything that my dad wrote about Meghan Markle and I remain standing in support of those that are targeted with online hatred.”

Jeremy’s article has sparked wide outrage on social media, particularly in response to the graphic language he uses in his vitriol against the Duchess.

“I hate her on a cellular level,” he wrote. “At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

Jeremy also accused Meghan of controlling Prince Harry like a “glove puppet” and forecasted their future marriage breakup.

Many have spoken out against the column, including Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who tweeted: “As Jeremy Clarkson should well know – words have consequences. The words in his piece are no joke – they’re dangerous and inexcusable. We are in an epidemic of violence against women and girls and men with powerful voices must do better than this.”

Meghan and Harry’s close friend and photographer, who appeared in their recent Netflix documentary, also shared a video in which he said he was “horrified by the article written by Mr Jeremy Clarkson”. He added that it incites “violence towards Meghan”:

Jeremy’s daughter Emily had already shared her support for Meghan earlier in December, writing on Instagram: “My steadfast defence of them has never been of the individuals I don’t know, rather of two people who have, objectively, been treated APPALLINGLY. And I genuinely feel concern for anyone who can look at how she particularly has been written/joked/spoken about and feel that it’s justified. It’s bullying on a mass scale and it drove a new mother to want to end her life.”
