There’s a comedian in the car, but will he get any coffee?

It’s fair to say while some famous actors just happen to be gearheads, Jerry Seinfeld is a gearhead who just happens to be a famous actor. The man has parlayed his success into amassing an impressive fleet of classic and collector cars, known as one of the foremost Porsche collectors on the planet. His latest addition to his armada of horsepower? A one-off 911 Classic Club Coupe commanding a cool $1.2 million.
Birthed from the Porsche Sonderwunsch programme, this car was built from a 911 Carrera (type 996) built in 1998 which was apparently roadworthy but in need of a care and attention — the perfect car, then, over which Porsche and the Porsche Club of America (PCA) could put their heads together and create something of a ‘greatest hits’ album.

Drawing inspiration from the 997-era 911 Sport Classic, this factory one-off was initially completely stripped and given a chemical bath to remove all the paint after which the body was prepped for rebuilding and strengthening. Two standout body features are the rear lid with a tremendous fixed ducktail spoiler and that excellent double-bubble roof. These alterations were primarily completed by hand thanks to the experienced crafters at Porsche Classic, many of whom have worked on the production lines at Porsche. This helps explain the seamlessness of the car’s alterations, to say nothing of slotting a GT3 powertrain underneath its frame.

That striking paint colour is a new Sport Grey Metallic, elaborated by Sport Grey Light go-faster stripes and highlighted with thin lines in an exclusive PCA colour called Clubblau. Anyone blessed with the gift of eyesight has spotted the ‘Classic Club Coupe’ logo on the car’s flanks. Inside, door panels and centre sections of the sport seats are finished that classic Pepita pattern — a Porsche mainstay — though the colourways are unique. Various and sundry accessories like the key, tool bag, and car cover were tailor-made for the 911 Classic Club Coupe.
If you’re wondering, it took the Porsche Sonderwunsch boffins and the Porsche Club of America over two years to complete this car after bandying around the idea. Given his love for the marque, we expect Seinfeld will hang onto it for a bit longer than that.
