Jesse Lingard was left shocked by a call from a Manchester United executive earlier this week after the Red Devils demanded a £12m ‘survival’ fee from Newcastle in order to sign the midfielder.
The England international is determined to leave Old Trafford this month but he’s been frustrated by United’s demands to interested clubs.
Newcastle have offered to pay Lingard’s wages in full for the remainder of the season, while putting up a £2.5million loan fee.
However, the Red Devils have demanded that a ‘survival’ clause is included in Newcastle’s deal to sign Lingard, with United wanting a £12m bonus if the Magpies manage to escape relegation to the Championship.
Eddie Howe’s side were understandably shocked by the demand, particularly as Lingard is out of contract by the end of the season.
Lingard has barely featured for United this season and he’s made it clear to Ralf Rangnick that he wants to leave in order to play first team football, be it this month or at the end of the season.
The midfielder was therefore taken aback when a United executive called him this week to ask where his head was at in regards to leaving the club, report the Daily Mail.
Lingard feels he’s made it plainly clear what his intentions are and he feels as though he’s now being messed about by the club.
The academy graduate feels he’s being punished for declining the chance to sign a new deal and that United know they are pricing him out of a move this month.
West Ham and Tottenham both showed interest in Lingard earlier this month but United rebuffed their approaches.
