There were a bunch of awkward moments during ESPN’s NBA Draft coverage last night. But analyst JJ Redick is trying to clear the air on one of them.

At one point in the coverage, Redick, Malika Andrews and Andraya Carter were discussing three-point shooting when Carter seemed to forget about Redick’s career by calling him an “average shooter.”

Redick is no Steph Curry but for reference, he led the NBA in three-point shooting in the 2015-16 season and ranks 19th in NBA history from three.

So when Carter made that comment, Redick appeared to get flustered and almost went off before containing himself. However, in a tweet on Friday, Redick joked that it was all in good fun and that they were joking about it before the broadcast.

“Nah we were joking before the show about this. Andrea was just having fun. I can take it lol. @Andraya_Carter you crushed the draft,” Redick wrote.

Fans in Redick’s comments section pointed out that they could tell Carter was joking and admonished those who acted like it was a real moment:

“Your a true pro!! She did crush the draft! Im not going to lie I was going to DM her a highlight tape of you cooking …” one user replied.

“I was laughing at home when I heard this! Y’all were having fun and providing excellent analysis. One of my all time favorite draft panels!” wrote another.

“Man respect to you cuz she was totally roasting you all night and you handled it professionally every time,” a third wrote.

Redick may not be a Hall of Famer, but there was nothing average about his shooting.
