Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and JJ Redick were all teammates with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2018-19 season.
On Saturday, the trio was reunited in The Hamptons for Embiid’s wedding to longtime girlfriend Anne de Paula. Redick shared a photo of himself and his wife Chelsea with Harris and his wife Jasmine at the reception.
“Back with these two to celebrate @joelembiid and @annedepaula wedding yesterday,” Redick captioned the post.
In their one year together in Philly, Embiid, Harris and Redick helped the Sixers win 51 regular season games and advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals, where they dropped a heartbreaking seven-game series to the eventual NBA champion Toronto Raptors.
The problem for the Sixers is that they have not been able to get past the second round in the ensuing four seasons, losing in the Eastern Conference semis each of the last three years after a first-round exit in 2020.
This inability to get over the hump has cost two head coaches, Brett Brown and Doc Rivers, their jobs, and led to Philly bringing in Nick Nurse to take over. Nurse was the head coach of that Toronto team that knocked out the Sixers in 2019.
It would behoove Philadelphia to make a deep playoff run soon, as they could lose Embiid at some point if they don’t.
