Joe Judge isn’t the only coach having headset issues.
According to a report from CBS’ Jason La Canfora, the league’s new model for in-game communications this year has come with many issues regarding the sideline belt packs worn by coaches.
“This is pretty widespread,” an NFL source told LaCanfora. “It’s not just a Joe Judge thing.”
The belt packs reportedly have antennas that either fall out or fail to stay connected, making communication difficult. Issues have also occurred among officials in their communications with the league office during replay reviews.

Though Judge was the one to complain about it publicly — and the league has reportedly sent specialists to work with the Giants on multiple instances to train their staff on how to use the belt packs — it’s not just them. A number of coaching staffs have had issues.
“The headsets were going out,” Judge said after the Giants’ loss in Kansas City on Nov. 1. “We are having headset issues. This has happened in every game so far.
“We deal with the league and they keep telling us there are different software updates or whatever it is, but we had to call two timeouts today because we were trying to send the deals in personnel wise and you got half the headsets not getting reception. That is the issue right there.”
The Giants should be preparing for those issues if they’re widespread — they seem to deal with them worse than other teams. But the issue itself seems very much real.
