Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have been one of the NBA’s better teams over the last six seasons, but have been unable to get over the hump of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Embiid wants to break through that barrier and win a title–and he’s okay with doing it outside of Philly, something he made clear during a recent Q&A.
“I just want to win a championship, whatever it takes. I don’t know where that’s going to be, whether it’s in Philly or anywhere else,” Embiid said.
Was not expecting Joel Embiid to say “or anywhere else” when talking about championships… He’s close to his breaking point here in Philly. pic.twitter.com/0MqXX1rnrT

This past season, Embiid won his first NBA Most Valuable Player Award, but the 76ers still lost to the Boston Celtics in seven games in the second round of the postseason.
During that series, Embiid, coming off an injury that caused him to miss two games, posted three straight games of 30-plus points as Philadelphia took a 3-2 series lead.
However, he scored only 41 total points in back-to-back losses in Games 6 and 7, including a 15-point effort on 5-of-18 shooting in the elimination game.
The 76ers will be breaking in a new head coach (Nick Nurse) in 2023-24, and with Embiid making these comments, the pressure will be turned up on the entire team to reach the NBA Finals.
