John Fury flipped out when he was asked a question about Anthony Joshua while in Dubai for his son Tommy’s exhibition bout against Rolly Lambert. As the interviewer attempted to ask about Joshua’s recent comments that he is a ‘free spirit’ and wants to work with multiple coaches for his comeback, John cut off the reporter mid-flow.
“I don’t want to mention him at all,” he told Seconds Out. “There’s no discussion on AJ, he had his chance with The Gypsy King, he p***** out! We want no more to do with him or his team.”
John’s outrage stems from the recent breakdown in negotiations between his eldest son Tyson Fury and AJ. The pair were set to face each other on December 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales after Joshua accepted Fury’s call out.
However, communication dropped at the eleventh hour. As a result, a third bout against Derek Chisora is scheduled to replace the Joshua fight on the same date (at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium).
“He’s as good as what is out there is Derek Chisora. Never mind all this, I understand the fight game, put Derek Chisora in against any of the top six in the world apart from Tyson and you wouldn’t know which one is going to win the fight,” he continued.
“He is as good as any other fight out there. But you’ve got to give Derek Chisora credit for taking the fight, AJ wouldn’t take it, Usyk wouldn’t take it.
“There’s a lot of people out there that wouldn’t take it, so he deserves his payday. He’s a man, he’s got all the respect in the world from me, and he will put up a good fight, how’s that?”
