Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte press conference

John Fury has slammed David Haye, and insisted that he will “regret” showing up to cover his son Tyson’s next heavyweight title defence.

The former cruiserweight and heavyweight champion has famously picked against Fury in his four world heavyweight title fights against Wladimir Klitschko and a trilogy with Deontay Wilder. And after once again picking the Brit to lose, this time to Dillian Whyte on Saturday, the champion’s father has requested he be banned from punditry duty.

However, BT Sport have confirmed that Haye will be in attendance, and furthermore will be involved in the broadcast, much to the elder Fury’s chagrin. He has declared that the ex-fighter, who returned to the ring for a brief exhibition comeback last September, will not be welcome at the event.

“Don’t talk about jealous maniacs,” Fury said in an interview with iFL TV, claiming that Haye is jealous of his son’s successes at heavyweight. “I’m telling you, he’s not allowed to be there.

“Because if he is, they’ll regret it. If David Haye is commentating on this fight, I’ll tell you now David, you’ve shot your mouth off one too many times and it’s too far. If you’re there, mate, have your tin hat on because you’re going to need it, that’s all I’m saying.

“All them other people are has-beens, what are they now? They’ve spent all the money they’ve had. They’ve had millions of pounds and they haven’t got the brains to invest it, they’re skint members blowing off blue tick companies for a few quid.

“Let me tell you something, it’s like p***ing in the ocean. You can give them all the money in the world and people like that it’s no good to them because cleverer people will take it all off them.”

Haye has argued that Fury is overreacting, saying that he’s given his fair share of predictions in favour of his former rival. The pair were supposed to fight on two occasions, but the bouts were cancelled due to injuries and their feud was never settled in the ring.

“I’ve gone against Tyson Fury four times,” Haye explained to TalkSPORT after admitting that he is involved in a rivalry with the elder Fury. “The three times he fought Deontay Wilder and against Wladimir Klitschko.

“All of the other fights I thought he was going to win. This is another fight. On paper, he should win this fight. He’s never lost before, he’s the champion, he’s in his home turf – on paper he should win.

“But, I love an underdog. I know Dillian Whyte, I’ve sparred with him myself, I know how effective he is and this is how I see it. He’s a very, very hard hitter. He put down Joseph Parker. Parker has a granite chin and he put him down. He’s knocked some amazing fighters out with that left hook.”

And Haye has been reassured that he will be on the broadcast tomorrow night, adding: “John Fury feels I’m too biased, maybe in the same way he might be a little biased towards this fight as well tomorrow night.

“But, let the best man win. I am commentating, they’ve brought me in especially for this one. They said, ‘don’t worry about John Fury, we really want you on here’.”
