John Higgins knows he is taking on a ‘dangerous animal’ in Jack Lisowski after the Englishman’s superb win over Neil Robertson in the second round.

Robertson came to the Crucible as the bookmakers’ favourite but suffered a surprise 13-12 defeat to Jackpot on Monday night, despite making a 147 break in a World Championship classic.

Higgins came through a less dramatic second round clash as he downed Noppon Saengkham 13-7 but is expecting a tough test against a Lisowski who will be full of confidence.

The Wizard of Wishaw was speaking before Lisowski beat the Thunder from Down Under, but knew that anyone who overcomes the Australian will be a serious handful in the last eight.

‘Lisowski brings a different challenge [to Robertson],’ Higgins said. ‘It probably puts me as favourite, I’d imagine. But he’s got the chance to write his own chapter in this tournament.

‘For him to beat someone as good as Neil, he’ll be feeling on top of the world, he’ll feel as though if he can beat Neil Robertson he can certainly beat anybody, which makes him a dangerous animal.’
