John Wick: Chapter 4 is finally arriving in Japan in September after becoming one of the most successful movies of the year and one of the most acclaimed titles in the entire franchise led by Keanu Reeves as the titular assassin.

Back in 2014, when the first installment of the saga hit theaters, neither director Chad Stahelski nor Reeves imagined the enormous phenomenon that the story of a man seeking revenge for the death of his dog, among many other things, would become. Almost 10 years later and with four movies already released, the John Wick universe is ready to expand beyond the main character, although that original story could also continue in the future.

But before even thinking about John’s next epic adventure, the latest movie still has to be release in a few countries like Japan, where it will be premiering on September 22 with a new name. While promoting the upcoming debut with a new trailer, the official Twitter page for the film revealed that in Japan it will be called John Wick: Consequences:

John Wick: Consequences definitely reflects the theme of the movie. First of all, the word is repeated several times throughout the 2 hours and 49 minutes the film lasts, but it is also related to one of the main topics, which is acknowledging that every action has a consequence.

While fans wait for the confirmation of a fifth installment, despite the very acceptable closure that the latest film offered to the character’s journey, the future of the franchise has some very interesting things to offer for those asking for more John Wick.

On the one hand, Peacock will release The Continental in September, the first official spinoff of the saga that centers on the famous hotel for assassins. The three-part series will take the audience back in time to present a young version of Winston, Ian McShane’s character, to dive deep into the mythology of the hotel but also show more of the world where John lives in, moving in the shadows and outside the limits of the law.

But that won’t be all. Back in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the door to a new universe was opened with the introduction of Anjelica Huston’s character and her army of ballerinas. Ana de Armas is set to star in the second spinoff of the franchise titled Ballerina, which will follow one of The Director’s apprentice in her own killing adventures.

Halle Berry’s character, Sofia, was also rumored to have her own spinoff in development but nothing new has been shared about it by Lionsgate. But if the new stories work, there’s no doubt the studio will consider developing other projects related to the franchise in the future, so there are still hopes for her return.
