JoJo Siwa Explained Why She No Longer Regrets Calling Out Candace Cameron Bure
JoJo Siwa Doesn’t Regret Candace Cameron Bure Feud

Remember, last year, she named Candace the rudest celebrity she’d ever met while participating in a viral TikTok trend.

JoJo explained that when she was 11, she tried taking a picture with the Full House star, but was told no because it “wasn’t a good time for her.” Candace later apologized to JoJo for the encounter and said she’d also had a private conversation with her to smooth things over.

“Then after that, dust settled, and so I was like, all right, fine, whatever, she’s cool, I just won’t speak of her again to the internet, like just keep it private,” JoJo explained on a new episode of The Viall Files. “I actually had a little bit of like, ‘I shouldn’t have posted that, she didn’t need that, I didn’t need that, like, let’s learn the lesson for next time.'”

But then Candace did that interview with the Wall Street Journal, in which she said that the Great American Family Network — where she works — would keep “traditional marriage at the core” of its programming, suggesting it wouldn’t feature LGBTQ couples. JoJo, who’s queer, said at the time that she found the comments “rude” and “hurtful to a whole community of people.”

She also told Nick she wished Candace “was able to be a little more open, more accepting” and said, ultimately, she was “OK with calling her out in the way that I did.”

“For a while, I regretted it. But after I found … that article about her not wanting anything to do with LGBTQIA, that’s my people. And I’ve got to stand up for my people. That’s messed up.”

“It wasn’t that she wants to do a movie about that,” JoJo shared. “It’s that she wants to do a movie about that to put down LGBTQIA, and that she was specifically going to make movies that had no representation of LGBTQIA.”

“It’s fine if you are doing it because it’s just your movie’s storyline, and it’s just it is what it is,” she added. “Not everything needs to be gay, essentially, but when you’re doing it out of spite to say, ‘Too much is about LGBTQ right now. You guys suck, and I want to make a movie about traditional marriage. And you’re not traditional.’ That got to me a little bit.”

Candace previously said she was heartbroken by the backlash her comments received and that she would never intentionally “offend and hurt anyone.” She hasn’t yet responded to JoJo’s comments, but we’ll let you know if she does. In the meantime, listen to JoJo’s interview here.
