With his return as Frank Castle on the horizon, Jon Bernthal is getting prepared by doing some target practice. Currently, production is underway on the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, an all-new show that brings back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. Vincent D’Onofrio is also confirmed to return as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. Better yet, at least one other familiar face will appear, as it was also confirmed that Bernthal reprises his role as the Punisher for the series.
On the official Instagram account for Taran Tactical Innovations (per TheDirect), a new video was posted of Bernthal on the shooting range. Oddly enough, he’s joined by actor Thomas Jane, who previously played Frank Castle in the 2004 feature film The Punisher. Both actors can be seen doing some target practice with different firearms, and of getting the two Frank Castles together, the post teases that it’s time to “Enter the Punisher Multiverse.”
Not that it’s anything new for Bernthal to stay sharp with his firearms by practicing at this particular range. The actor is said to be a regular there, possibly going back to his earlier days in the role back when he debuted the character on Netflix. Another recently posted video showed how Bernthal is keeping up with his physical fight training as well, sparring in the ring in a video that was posted to Instagram in late March.
The Punisher Will Be Around for Longer Than a Simple Cameo
This isn’t going to be a brief, special appearance from Frank Castle that could be missed if you blink. Vincent D’Onofrio has teased that both Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock play a “major part of the show.” He also teased that the new show will have a different vibe compared to Daredevil on Netflix, but that he’s excited to have the fans see what’s in store for everyone with Daredevil: Born Again.
“We’ve only just started shooting,” the actor told Newsweek in March, around the time when Bernthal’s in-ring training video was posted online. “I think we’re a couple weeks in, and the show is going to be very, very different than the Netflix show, and it’s so exciting because what we’re doing is quite something.”
Daredevil: Born Again is expected to arrive in 2024 after filming throughout most of 2023. An exact premiere date hasn’t yet been set, but what’s known is that the show will consist of a whopping 18 episodes, much higher than that is typically given to the MCU-set shows on Disney+. It’s also apparent that Marvel Studios and Disney have high hopes in the success of the series, as D’Onofrio has also let it slip that there are plans for a second season already in the works. With that said, season 2 hasn’t been officially announced.
