Jonnie Irwin has shared a behind-the-scenes clip showing him at work filming his new project, just days after detailing he was receiving palliative care amid his cancer diagnosis.
The former A Place In The Sun presenter, 49, announced in November 2022 that he could have ‘months to live’ after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, with the disease having spread from his lungs to his brain.
Dad-of-three Jonnie has since been giving updates about his health, most recently with an appearance on Morning Live where he spoke about receiving care in a hospice.
The Escape to the Country star has also been keeping his fans up to date with his personal life on Instagram over the past few weeks, from a trip to the Ashes to a rare public appearance at an award show.
He’s now given a behind-the-scenes peak at life at work, filming what appears to be a TV ad.
He was seen in a kitchen with two co-stars and a camera production team, with the clip captioned: ‘Behind the scenes with @jonnieirwintv.’
The video had been re-shared by Jonnie after Mayfair Worktops shared it on Instagram.
Jonnie wore a sweater-vest over his shirt and a cap as he leant back against the worktops, listening to the production team behind the cameras as filming was underway.
Earlier this week, Jonnie joined Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones via video chat on Morning Live, where he explained what palliative care really entails.
He said: ‘Palliative care is the care you’re given when the doctors think you won’t recover. I’ve been in palliative care from day one.’
‘My perception of a hospice was very much a boiling hot room full of people that look frail and towards the end of their days,’ Jonnie went on.
‘This is nothing of the sort. It’s spacious, energised, comfortable. It’s even got a jacuzzi bath, en suite rooms. The staff are just amazing. I’ve had a really good experience of my hospice.’
When asked what advice he would give to people in a similar situation to his own, Jonnie encouraged others to ‘embrace it’, before recalling his first experience of being a day patient in a hospice for a blood transfusion.
‘I implore people to check out the hospice – if you’ve got the choice of using it, then use it,’ he said.
