Jordan Peterson On Joe Rogan’s Podcast Echoes The Lunacy Of Netflix’s ‘Don’t Look Up’

Netflix’s Don’t Look Up satirized the collective delusion of climate change denial, showing politicians and media personalities unable to acknowledge the bitter truth, condemning their complicity in misinforming the public.

On Joe Rogan’s podcast, a recent appearance from Jordan Peterson made the film look less like a parody, and more like a simple reflection of reality. As soon as the podcast began recording, Peterson jumped straight into his climate change denial talking points, which have become increasingly unhinged over the years. Peterson stated:

“There’s no such thing as climate. ‘Climate’ and ‘everything’ are the same word.”

Peterson went on to claim that because climate change models do not include “everything,” they cannot possibly be accurate. Even Rogan, who normally listens to his guests spew rancid misinformation with barely a blink, seemed confused, and somewhat irritated.

“Hmm,” Rogan responded. “What do you mean by, ‘everything’?”

Rogan’s recording room is the place that first catapulted Peterson to fame, launching his career as a self-help guru and right-wing culture warrior. From the very beginning of his media career, Peterson has always been a climate change skeptic, even as he attempted to conceal it with cautious language.

Now, after years spent arguing fiercely with critics and agreeing with the likes of Ben Shapiro and Stefan Molyneux, Peterson’s refusal to acknowledge the warnings from climate scientists sounds less like mere skepticism, and more like proud ignorance.

Indeed, Peterson’s denial was so outlandish that it caught the attention of multiple climate scientists, who expressed despair that Peterson would talk so confidently about a subject he clearly knows so little about, especially as a guest on one of the most popular and influential podcasts in America.

Peterson’s commitment to climate change denial is deeply ironic, considering that Peterson initially rose to fame by framing himself as a “facts and logic” truth-teller, who trusts peer-reviewed science over gut instinct.

Now, Peterson seems to believe he knows better than NASA, and is broadcasting his ridiculous opinion on a massive platform, following yet another record-shattering year of spiking global temperatures.

The controversy comes just as Spotify is grappling with the growing backlash to misinformation flowing out of The Joe Rogan Experience; Spotify recently made the decision to remove Neil Young’s entire music catalog from their platform, after a sternly-worded ultimatum from Young:

“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” Young said in a now-deleted letter, reports Rolling Stone. “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”
