Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has once again commented on being called a “plumber” after winning the MTN8 title on Saturday night.

In South African football the term means a coach who isn’t an intellectual of the game.

When the Spanish tactician coach joined the Buccaneers in June, his appointment was questioned by many considering he had only managed one team as a head coach before.

He says winning the MTN8 title isn’t a response to his naysayers.

RIVEIRO – I’M JUST A COACH

“I’m not here to respond to anyone, I’m here to do my job,” Riveiro told journalists in the post-match press conference.

“I’m a professional football coach, I’m prepared to do it, that’s why I got the opportunity to be part of this beautiful club.

“I would also like to take the chance to say thank you to my bosses for giving me the opportunity to represent a brand like Pirates.

“We’re doing a good job altogether and I’m just a coach, there’s a lot of things around the football game that need to work, need to be well-oiled.

“I have a responsibility but that’s it, I’m just a head coach, like I said, there are people around who help to make this work.

“I understand that sometimes we as coaches, we’re in the spotlight for the different visions especially when huge.

“There’s nothing I can do about it, I can not control it, I don’t spend time thinking, this is not revenge [MTN8 triumph].

“We did what we [were] supposed to do.”
