Filming for Death in Paradise series 13 has begun in Guadeloupe and some eagle-eyed fans had their suspicions that Josephine Jobert was rejoining the cast. Speculation was heightened when the French actress commented on the show’s Instagram announcement that filming had commenced.

The Death in Paradise account shared a snap of a director’s clapperboard floating in crystal blue water, along with the caption: “We’re back in Guadeloupe with a splash,” to which Josephine replied with four flame emojis.

One fan, named Nic, then eagerly asked: “Is this a sign that you’ll be back?”

Another fan also said: “She needs to return as the next Detective Inspector.

As speculation mounted, Josephine took to Instagram Story to address fans’ calls.

The 38-year-old wrote: “Ahah there’s an article like that every time a new series is being filmed.

“And I would be curious to know why fans think Florence would return.”

Josephine joined Death in Paradise in 2015, playing DS Cassell for four years before leaving for “personal and professional reasons” in 2019.

Nevertheless, it was not the last fans saw of Florence as she returned for the 10th series in 2021 before making her final appearance the following year.

Despite her exit, Josephine’s co-stars have assured that “the door is always open” for her to make another comeback.

In an interview with Express.co.uk, Marlon Pryce actor Tahj Miles gushed: “I love Josephine Jobert.

“She is amazing. I would love for her to come back. There are so many characters…there is a lot of space for any of them to return, the door is always open.”

Josephine previously opened up about whether she would join the show’s spin-off Beyond Paradise, explaining: “It’s a possibility that we discussed with the producer some time ago. So we’ll see if that will happen.

“But I would love to anyway. It would be a very nice wink.”

The BBC has not confirmed a start date for Death in Paradise season 13, but it is expected to air in January 2024.
