Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey has been accused of having a relationship with a minor, and the Newport Beach (CA) police department has announced that they are investigating.
The NBA and the Thunder are still looking into the situation, but Giddey’s family reportedly believes that he has been tricked, as the allegations don’t align with his previous behavior.
According to the Daily Mail, the family feels that Giddey was deceived.
“They are the most down-to-earth people you could meet. They’re very humble,” a source said about Giddey and his family.
“Josh is a good kid and knowing the family, I thought there’s something more to this because he’s not like that,” the source said.
Giddey and Thunder head coach Mark Daigenault have declined to comment on the matter, with Daigenault referring to the issue as a “personal matter.”
The allegations against Giddey first surfaced on social media, as a user claimed that a person seen in photographs and videos with the player was a high school junior.
Giddey has continued to play amid the allegations, receiving an ovation from home fans in Oklahoma City before Sunday’s game against the 76ers.
Giddey is in his third NBA season after being selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 Draft.
