Joshua in immense shape as AJ posts clip of wood-chopping training

Anthony Joshua looks ripped and ready for his April 1 showdown with Jermaine Franklin. The muscle-bound Brit recently uploaded a video of him chopping wood, in a Rocky Balboa-style training segment.

As AJ finishes off the final preparations for his crunch clash, DAZN cameras were allowed into camp to watch Joshua train under new head coach Derrick James. The pair teamed up after Joshua parted ways with former lead Robert Garcia following just four months of working together.

Joshua has relocated to Dallas, Texas to train at James’ gym ahead of fight night and is going back to basics with his training. According to the limited footage that has been released from inside the camp, Joshua is adopting a lot of callisthenics and old-school wood-chopping training as he piles on the muscle mass.

“You know what you need to do as a fighter? Skip, shadow box hit the heavy bag, hit the mitts and spar,” the former world heavyweight champion told DAZN when discussing his routine with James.

“But you need to do it with intention and understanding of what you’re trying to do… He [James] is kind of: ‘Let’s strip it back, let’s get back to basics.’ Which is good.”

And James is impressed by how Joshua is adapting to the changes. “The world hasn’t seen the best of Anthony Joshua. I know Franklin is a really good fighter, so we’re taking this very serious. I think he [Joshua] will be the guy he is supposed to be on the night,” said James at the launch press conference.

“He’s understanding everything I’m telling him to do,” he added. “I won’t talk about what I’m most impressed with because that’s a giveaway but he’s a great figher, he’s very athletic, good foot movement and very intellectual first and foremost. His hand speed is also great and I’m very interested and can’t wait to keep going.”

Joshua’s next outing carries massive implications with a loss potentially spelling an end to his career. Meanwhile, victory opens doors to massive fights with Dillian Whyte, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is aiming to stage the Whyte rematch in the summertime followed by a blockbuster showdown with either Wilder or Fury at the back end of the year providing all goes well next month.
