Anthony Joshua’s net worth has risen by nearly 25 per cent despite not being able to secure a blockbuster payday with Tyson Fury. According to figures published by his company, Sparta Promotions Limited, the Watford powerhouse earned £14.6million from his first fight against Oleksandr Usyk and a further £5.6m from sponsorship deals between March 2021 and February 2022.
Joshua also rewarded himself with a payday of £4.5m, £1.4m more than the previous year. Despite being left with a tax bill of £3.8m, Sparta Promotions took home a profit of £13m to boost the company’s wealth to £106m.
This is yet to include his reported £30m earnings from his second fight against Usyk in August. However, Joshua was unable to secure what almost certainly would have been a career-best purse against The Gypsy King after negotiations to stage a clash between the pair on December 3 fell through.
There have been no official estimates on how much Joshua would have taken home but reports from May 2021 when both men first agreed upon terms gives an idea of the monetary value. The initial negotiations to stage the contest on August 14, 2021, in Saudi Arabia came when both men were world champions and at the peak of their powers.
“£15million step-aside money, free money, then Tyson would have gone and done what AJ couldn’t do. He would have gone and beat Usyk and brought all the belts back to the UK. In the meantime, AJ could have had a couple of easy victories, another £30million and then he could have challenged Tyson for the belts and who knows what kind of numbers that would have done.
“So, yeah, you don’t have to be the brains of Britain to see how you cost him money and put him in a position where he was on hiding to nothing, Mr brains of Britain. You got him beat over there when you could have had £15million free money, step-aside money and Tyson could have gone and beat his man up for him and brought all the belts back in.
“He could’ve challenged him after some easy victories, free money I might as well say, so yeah, you’re a clever man Eddie, aren’t you? Very clever.”
