Anthony Joshua has told Tyson Fury to conduct himself in a ‘better fashion’ after The Gypsy King hurled insults at True Geordie during their recent YouTube interview. Geordie – whose real name is Brian Davis – grilled Fury on his upcoming contest with Derek Chisora, angering the WBC champion.
Fury faces Chisora for a third time on December 3 after two convincing victories over his fellow countryman in 2011 and 2014. Many fans have expressed their displeasure over the match-up with few giving Del Boy much of a chance.
Promoter Frank Warren has stated that Chisora was the best possible opponent for Fury. However, there is an ongoing debate in the boxing world as to whether higher-level opposition could have been explored for the same date.
Davis challenged Fury on this very subject and got an earful for his troubles. The Mancunian branded the YouTuber a ‘t***pot’ and told him to ‘kiss his b****’ as he shut down the video call.
Now, Joshua has given his opinion on the matter and has told Fury to set a better example for the younger generations.”Listen, there’s one thing being the champion of the ring and there’s another being the champion of the people outside of the ring,” he told SPORTbible.
In a similar vein, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn also gave his thoughts on the interview. Speaking to Boxing Social, he said: “Tyson doesn’t really like being quizzed on things, in all honesty. He’s a fighter, so it’s his job to talk to the media – but not like my job to talk to the media where I have to, and I have to do 30 [interviews].
“I thought the questions were fine; they weren’t personal, he was just [asking] questions and Tyson lost his rag. Maybe Fury had done like three or four hours of interviews and just thought, ‘F*** me, I can’t be a***d to talk to this bloke’ – which is fine. It just looks like a weakness, and people see it as a weakness, but he’s just a human being. Sometimes you have bad days, sometimes you get p****d off.”
