Julie Andrews worries she may be “too old a granny” to play Queen Clarisse Renaldi in a third Princess Diaries movie. Never!
The 86-year-old actor opened up about the possibility of returning to Genovia alongside former co-star Anne Hathaway ahead of receiving the AFI Life Achievement Award on 9 June.
“I don’t know, I think I’m the one – she’s probably still ok for it, but I might just be a little too old a granny for it, I don’t know,” Julie told Entertainment Weekly on the red carpet. “It depends what the story is, and if they can come up with something, that would be wonderful. But if not, there will be other things.”

Julie starred in The Princess Diaries in 2001 before reprising her role as Mia Thermopolis’ regal grandmother in the 2004 sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Over the past 18 years, both she and Anne have expressed interest in returning for a third film. Back in January 2019, Anne even suggested The Princess Diaries 3 was already scripted.
“There is a script for the third movie,” revealed on Watch What Happens Live at the time. I want to do it. Julie [Andrews] wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to do it unless it’s perfect, because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you. And we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it.”

Of course, Julie Andrews is currently voicing Lady Whistledown in the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton, which comes with certain perks. “I don’t have to get into make-up and hair if I don’t want to,” she told EW. Honestly, sounds like a dream gig to me.
