Former Liberal Party deputy leader Julie Bishop has drawn criticism over an Instagram post in which she seemingly changed her appearance using a filter.
The retired West Australian politician appeared with her features blurred as she uploaded a video to followers after a 10km run through Kings Park in Perth on Sunday morning.
“Are you using a filter,” a commenter asked under her post.
Ms Bishop replied that if she was, “I’d get rid of the mascara dripping under my eyes”.
A second, anonymous commenter from a private account wrote “take the filter off though”, but the former foreign affairs minister immediately shot back.
“May I see your posts?” Ms Bishop replied.
A fan told Ms Bishop, 66, that she was “truly an inspiration” to them.
“Your posts might be enough to get me up early enough to start (Couch to 5km)!
“Have run on and off for years, but injuries always seem to haunt me … keep posting, if you get one person started then that makes it worthwhile,” another wrote.
The popular former federal political leader, who now runs her own consulting business, Julie Bishop and Partners, has been documenting her running exploits on social media over the last few weeks, including on Melbourne’s famous Tan track.
In December, she attracted headlines after showing off her yoga skills with a headstand on Cottesloe Beach in the background of a live cross, surprising a Studio 10 reporter.
“I was relatively fit but I was challenged by many of the poses,” she previously told Body and Soul.
“Over time, I came to enjoy the experience and yoga has become part of my life.”
