Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been left in awe at the ‘insane’ Mo Salah after the Egyptian broke the record for the most left-footed goals in Premier League history against Leeds on Monday. However, the news from his press conference was not all positive as the German revealed that Roberto Firmino would miss be missing for the weekend’s game vs Nottingham Forest through injury.

Salah’s brace vs Leeds at Elland Road took him to 107 left-footed goals in the Premier League. The double took him beyond Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler to sit top of the standings outright with Robin van Persie and Ryan Giggs among those not far behind.

Salah has now scored 135 times in the Premier League in total with all but two coming for the Reds leaving him now just one goal behind Fowler to become the club’s sixth top scorer of all time. Klopp has been left in awe by his achievements and suggested they help motivate him to perform.

“I’ve worked with him for so long,” the German told reporters. “When I heard he had scored the most left-footed goals in PL history, I thought ‘that’s insane’, especially when you look at the other names on that list.

“It’s massive. Surpassing Robbie is another stat. I know Mo likes these kinds of things. It will fill his tank before the game.”

However, it was not all good news for Liverpool with the news that Firmino would be missing from the weekend’s game. The issue is not thought to be serious but could keep him out for the next week meaning he could also miss the games against West Ham and Tottenham.

“Unfortunately Bobby picked up a muscle issue,” Klopp explained. “We’ll have to see how long it takes.

“It’s not too serious, but he’s definitely out for tomorrow. Next week, we have two more games I would say that are impossible as well and then we will see. We have to take it day by day.”

The news will come as something of a blow to Klopp who admits he is planning to rotate his team in the coming games. However, he was keen to stress the best way for his players to secure a place in his front line was by making sure they always give their all in the press.

“The ticket into this team will definitely be counter-pressing,” Klopp explained. “If you did it in the game you play, you have a good chance to start again.

“We have opportunities to change. We have five games in two weeks. Yes, there will be changes. Everybody is super important to us.”

Liverpool’s match against Nottingham Forest at Anfield will get underway at 3pm on Saturday as the Reds look to inflict revenge after being beaten in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
