‘Jury is out’ – Questions raised about Nunez after Salah pass blunder

Darwin Nunez’s performances in a Liverpool shirt continue to come into question and doubts have been cast about whether he can actually succeed at Anfield.

The Uruguay striker came off the bench in the second half of their 1-0 victory over Man City on Sunday.

There is one particular moment that sticks out from his 18 minute cameo at the end of the game.

Nunez had the ball at his feet with Liverpool having a three-on-one advantage over City and Salah in acres of space on his left.

He either did not see his teammate or chose to ignore him and shoot. Either way it was not a good look for the striker.

Former Liverpool forward Dean Saunders admitted he still has questions over whether he can do it for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Saunders told talkSPORT Breakfast: “My honest opinion of yesterday, he came on, got through and he’s got to slip the ball to Salah.

“He didn’t even see Salah. Salah has just scored as well, he’s got to give it to him. He shoots because he’s trying to get himself a goal.

“I know how he feels, he’s desperate to get off the mark at Liverpool. He then goes through at the end and tries to dink the goalkeeper.

“On the plus side, it looks like he can run. That’s my positive.

“The jury is out. Whether he can fit into the class football Liverpool play, whether he can fit into that. Hopefully he does.”

Nunez has had a mixed start to life at Liverpool, with two Premier League goals and another in the Champions League. However, he also served a three-game ban for a red card on his Anfield debut.
