A look at the dark side of the K-pop industry

K-pop industry is quite famous now among all age groups. It is winning hearts across the world because of its covering music charts, breaking records, emerging into the Western entertainment industry, and others.

Most people, however, are unaware of the challenging lives many Korean pop singers have led in the past and even in the present. Kids and early adolescents participate in competitive auditions with average competitive rates of 700:1 before ever having the option to train with entertainment businesses, according to media reports.

In recent years, many young K-pop stars have died including Goo Hara who passed in 2019. She had been abused by an ex-boyfriend who, after they split, blackmailed her over their sex videos. After a month of her death which was suspected suicide, Hara’s close friend, K-pop star Sulli, took her own life after a long struggle with online bullying, prompting demands in South Korea for stronger punishments for cybercrimes.
