KACST hosts meeting of heads of Regional Research Councils in MENA

RIYADH, 11th February, 2023 (WAM) — Under the leadership of Dr. Mounir bin Mahmoud Al-Desouki, the President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Deputy Chairman of the Governors of the Global Research Council (GRC), KACST hosted a meeting of the heads of Regional Research Councils in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The goal of the meeting was to develop a shared regional vision for enhancing the presence and influence of research councils in the future activities of GRC in the MENA region.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the chairmen of the councils recommended the formation of a joint working group to draft an executive plan for strengthening the role of regional research councils in future GRC activities. The plan should align with the regional priorities for research and innovation and reflect the future vision of the Council.

The chairmen also emphasised the need for better coordination among members of the MENA region, the appointment of a Secretary-General to represent the region in GRC, the development of Arab scientific media, and an information database to support researchers in the region.
