Kane’s Man Utd hint after Tottenham board chat before Stellini sacking

Tottenham may be going through another mini-crisis following Cristian Stellini’s dismissal, but Harry Kane has potentially provided a hint that he’s willing to see things out with the club beyond this summer in the process. Tottenham’s 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle on Sunday had fans leaving St James’ Park midway through the first half.

Heads had dropped in another embarrassing moment for the club in what has slowly become a disastrous campaign. What started out as a promising sign under Antonio Conte after they nabbed fourth place ahead of rivals Arsenal last year, soon turned sour before the Italian’s unceremonious departure.

Stellini was kept at the club on an interim basis having impressed in Conte’s absence in the weeks prior to his exit. But Tottenham won just one from four league games under Stellini with the 6-1 hammering against Newcastle proving to be the final straw.

Daniel Levy confirmed in a statement on the club’s website that he had held talks with the ‘player committee’ before deciding to part ways with Stellini. According to Football London, that group of players Levy would have met with include Kane, Hugo Lloris, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Eric Dier.

They’re said to be Tottenham’s ‘leadership group’ and it’s suggested they ‘must be confident’ Ryan Mason can do a better job than what Stellini was doing. But Kane’s involvement in that group could well hint at better news for Tottenham on the horizon.

The England captain has continually been linked with a move away from Tottenham and Manchester United are already doing their ‘due diligence’ on signing the striker this summer. Tottenham’s disappointing run will hardly do the club any favours in convincing Kane to stay and sign a new contract with his current deal expiring next year.

However, Kane clearly still feels attached to the club with his reported involvement in the decision behind Stellini leaving. Much will depend on who Tottenham are able to bring in as their next permanent manager.

But Tottenham are still close to Kane’s heart and his willingness to remain involved in the tough choices indicates where his preference may lie. Staying at Tottenham and winning trophies has been Kane’s ultimate goal, but it’s up to the club now to prove once and for all that they can turn things around.

This season already looks over for now with Tottenham facing a losing battle to secure Champions League football for next year. Whether Kane is willing to have another season out of Europe’s elite competition remains to be seen.

But it’s clear by Kane’s involvement behind the scenes at Tottenham that he’s certainly not already checked out.
