The two best teams in the Big 12 this season have been two unlikely names in Kansas State and Iowa State, so let’s settle who has the edge with a Tuesday night showdown in Ames, Iowa!
Kansas State didn’t suffer the classic “letdown” after upsetting rival Kansas last week in overtime by taking care of business against Texas Tech. However, they now get one of the best defenses in the country in Iowa State, who has thrived at home all season.
These are two elite clubs in what is shaping up to be the best game of the Tuesday night slate, here’s the odds and our best bet:

This should be a fantastic game with a battle between Kansas State’s high powered offense against the ferocious Iowa State defense.
The Cyclones bolster the best turnover rate in the country, turning foes over on 28% of their defensive possessions. They’ll face a Kansas State team that isn’t overly protective of the ball, outside the top 200 in turnover rate on the year, but have one of the best floor generals in the country in Marquis Nowell.
Nowell is second in the country in assist rate and the Wildcats are No. 1 in the loaded Big 12 in effective field goal percentage. They will need to be protective of the ball, but this is an offense that can score inside and out.
However, this Iowa State team is shooting at a high level right now, 40% in Big 12 play, which may not keep up long term, but I do believe they can turn this game into a defensive minded battle, where Kansas State will struggle to keep up.
The Wildcats are poor at defending the rim, 255th in field goal percentage allowed at the rack per Haslametrics, and Iowa State’s defense is built to shut down the paint, allowing the third furthest shot profile to opponents.
If this becomes a jump shot oriented attack for Kansas State, they won’t keep up on the road. Iowa State has been one of the best home teams all season (sixth per Haslametrics) and I’m inclined to lay the points or use this as a moneyline parlay piece.
