Multan Sultans have won four of their last five games to take the spot as their batters piled up 196 against toothless Kings bowling. Karachi batters made an effort but fell short by three runs.
Sultans have deservingly at the top of the table as their batters have been ruling the chart with the last-match centurion and skipper Mohammad Rizwan has amassed 329 runs to take the top spot.
Their in-form batter Rilee Rossouw holds the second spot with 218 runs in four innings while Shan Masood is back in form with a half-century in the last innings.
The strong showing of the top-order has kept the likes of Kieron Pollard and David Miller out of action as the duo has been striking above 168 in PSL 2023 so far.
Their bowlers have been best in the tournament too despite losing Shahnawaz Dahani and Joshua Little to injury as Ihsanullah (12 wickets), Abbas Afridi (10) and Usama Mir (9) hold the top three spots among wicket-takers.
However, Multan bowlers went for runs in the last game but eventually managed to defend the total against Karachi.
Karachi, on the other hand, are further weakened with the injury to Mohammad Amir but will be hoping their batters do the job for them with James Vince scoring 75 in his last game after scoring 42 prior.
Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim are Karachi’s highest run scorers with 164 and 166 runs respectively but Malik’s form has dropped off late with innings of 10 and 13. Malik, however, returned to bowling after a while and bowled a spell of 1/29. Imad has been the team’s highest wicket-taker with five dismissals.
Youngster Aamer Yamin has also picked five wickets in three games but overall as a bowling unit Karachi has left a lot to be desired. Akif Javed’s magic spell of 4/28 in his first game after replacing Hamza Mir was shortlived as he went for 36 runs in the next game in just three overs.
Imran Tahir has been ineffective too as far as wickets are concerned while Ben Cutting took three wickets and has been not making an impact with the bat.
