Nikola Jokic has a fan in NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. And like Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, he’s not buying into the idea that opposing teams are “allowing him to be a scorer.”
“It’s nice the way he moves the ball around when he doesn’t have good opportunities,” Kareem said in a recent conversation with reporters. “He finds the open man and hits him. I think it’s great set up the way they have the team because they got guys on the outside that could really hit it.”
Asked about Ramona Shelburne’s question of the strategy to let Jokic get high point totals in order to stop the rest of the Nuggets team, Abdul-Jabbar chuckled: “They’re not letting him get 50. That’s ridiculous.”
The 19-time All-Star also spoke on the evolution of the big man in today’s NBA and how he enjoys how centers and forwards can now impact the game from further away from the basket.
Kareem made one three-pointer in his career as a 39-year-old member of the Lakers. How the game has changed.
