Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has delivered many callbacks and Easter eggs to previous Indy adventures, and one of those is an appearance by Indy’s original love interest Marion Ravenwood, played by Karen Allen. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress revealed that despite having no regrets about coming back for Harrison Ford’s final outing, there is one thing that bothers her about her involvement in the fifth Indiana Jones adventure.

As Indiana Jones hangs up his Fedora one last time, it was only fitting that his original love Marion should put in an appearance. Dial of Destiny reveals that the pair parted ways after the events of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but the final of the movie sees them reunited once again in a moment that throws right back to Raiders of the Lost Ark. Despite being grateful of the chance to return to the franchise one last time, Allen explained that she wishes she had been able to have a bigger role in the movie. She said:

“[I wish she] was more a part of the adventure of this story. [I have a] sense of gratitude [to play her again]. She’s such a vibrant, wonderful character, and it would’ve broken my heart to see her just vanish into the ether.”

It is fair to say that among the many nostalgic throwbacks of the movie, seeing Allen and Ford reunited once again is one that everyone wanted to see and despite the usual initial denials, it seems that is one wish that did come true for fans.

Harrison Ford’s return to the Indiana Jones franchise with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was originally meant to the be the last adventure for Indy. However, the divided feelings of audiences is something that was mirrored by Ford himself and ultimately led to Dial of Destiny. Ford previously said:

“Six years ago, I thought maybe we ought to take a shot at making another one. And I wanted it to be about age because I think that rounds out the story that we’ve told and we brought it to the right place. I mean, the last one ended in kind of a suspended animation. There was not a real strong feeling of the conclusion or the closure that I always hoped for.”

For better or worse, Indy’s journey is now done, and Ford seems much happier with the result this time around. That seems to be something that audiences are also feeling as Dial of Destiny has so far pulled in a much higher approval rating than its predecessor. While there are still many conflicting opinions about what happens to the Indiana Jones franchise from here, Harrison Ford’s work is now done.
