Kate Garraway marks son’s 14th after tricky few weeks saw husband in hospital

Kate Garraway has marked her youngest child’s birthday with a trip to theme park, Alton Towers.

The Good Morning Britain host took to Instagram today to detail how the family marked Billy’s 14th.

The 56-year-old shared a beaming snap with her 1.1 million followers, as she undoubtedly tried to put her recent tricky time behind her.

Her husband Derek Draper was admitted to hospital at the end of June, as he continues to recover from Covid.

However, Kate said hearing her “buzzing” offspring – she is also mother to Darcey, 17, “was like winning the lottery”.

The broadcaster was pictured at the resort’s Rollercoaster Restaurant in the social media snap.

She was seen devouring a plate of food while looking chic in a striped, polo-neck jumper.

The star wrote alongside: “Thank you so much to @altontowers the #bestdayever – celebrating Bill’s 14th #birthday.

“Hearing them buzzing & screaming with delight was like winning the lottery – despite not being able to believe my ‘baby’ is 14!”

Kate continued: “Needless to say I was chief bag holder while they went on the rides as am an utter scaredy-cat.

“But hats off to @altontowers in finding a ‘ride’ I actually love.

“The restaurant that serves your lunch by whizzing it to your table on a rollercoaster – this is one ride I can get behind!”

“#HappySunday everyone,” the television favourite signed off her update, which was quickly liked by co-star Ben Shephard.

It was only a month ago that Derek found himself in hospital once again, after supporting her as she collected her MBE at Windsor Castle.

Kate shared earlier this month that not long after she received the honour from Prince William, her other half needed urgent medical treatment.

Speaking online, she stated: “Well what a week, that started with Derek in hospital and ended with Derek in hospital, but with this extraordinary day in the middle.

“I am so incredibly moved and humbled by the whole experience. So many of you have sent so many lovely messages, including the lady who stopped her car a few minutes ago outside our house to say, ‘I know what you’re going through, and I know how much that moment meant and I am a nurse.'”

She admitted that after her celebratory week, “the daily struggles go on” with Derek, who is the longest-surviving hospital patient with Covid in the UK.
