Kate’s ‘sexy’ £795 cocktail dress a ‘modern’ version of Queen Mother’s

Kate’s ‘sexy’ £795 cocktail dress a ‘modern’ version of Queen Mother’s

Kate Middleton, 40, has certainly had a style transformation ever since she married into the Royal Family back in 2011. But there were already some style icons within the Royal Family, including the late Queen Mother, who always looked her best whenever she was seen out.

Royal fan @KatesPowerSuit recently tweeted: “Looks like Catherine is wearing a modern day dress of what the Queen Mum wore,” with an accompanying split photograph showing the  Queen Mother on the left in a white frilly dress in 1922, and a photo of the Princess of Wales on the right at Wimbledon in 2011.

Kate’s dress, as Twitter user @Remisagoodboy discovered, was the Temperley London Moriah Dress, a white frilly dress with short sleeves, and very similar to the one worn by Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1922.

The description of Kate’s dress said: “The Temperley London silk Moriah Dress combines a voluminous shape with a beautifully embroidered neck panel.

“Cinched at the waist with a tie, it can also be worn as a tunic.”

Kate’s dress, similarly to the Queen Mother’s, featured three layers of floaty ruffles and a row of half circles on the straps.

Back in 2011, the white cocktail dress was penned as “a perennial, classic waist-nipped shape with a sexy, structured bodice, hand-embroidered straps and a tiered skirt”.

This dress and its identical black version are no longer in stock, however according to the website Kate Middleton Style, it originally sold for a whopping £795.

It was later reduced down to just £477 and the company restocked the dress a couple of times, due to its popularity.

DON’T MISS:

Kate accessorised her dress with a brown jacket (which, understandably in this heat, she did not wear).

The Princess paired her designer dress with some “Sledge Beige Patent Platform Courts” from LK Bennett, which are still in stock over a decade later.

These beige patent heels will set royal fans back £229 if they’d like to dress like Kate.

Their description says: “An L.K.Bennett classic without a doubt, our Sledge courts make a welcome return for our Reimagine capsule collection.

“Crafted in Spain from glossy beige patent leather, they have an almond-shaped toe, a slim 15mm platform sole sitting on non-slip resin and an elegant 110mm stiletto heel.

“Rejoice in the revival of Sledge, a much-loved court shoe that stands the test of time.”

The Princess could also be seen carrying a Stuart Weitzman Muse Clutch in nude for this occasion.

Kate wore her sapphire and diamond earrings. They matched her engagement ring and were modified from a pair that once belonged to Princess Diana.

The Princess also wore a charm bracelet on this hot day in 2011. The charm featured Kate’s cypher on one side and Queen Camilla’s on the other.

As such, one can assume this charm bracelet was a gift to Kate from Camilla.

In the original photograph of the Queen Mother wearing this style of dress in 1922, she accessorised with white stiletto heels and a pearl necklace.

Her hair was styled with a middle parting and curled in a very 1920s style. Elizabeth posed with her hands on her hips, in what looked to be a very proud stance.
