‘This is ridiculous!’: Katie Taylor fans vent their frustration after tickets for her homecoming fight vs Chantelle Cameron sell out instantly… with many claiming the 3Arena is ‘too small’ after Croke Park talks fell through

  • Katie Taylor’s homecoming fight sold out within minutes of being released
  • Between 8,000 and 9,000 people are expected to attend the bout next month
  • All of the £70 tickets – the cheapest available – were sold out within minutes

Boxing fans were left frustrated after €80 (£70) tickets for Katie Taylor’s homecoming fight sold out within minutes of being released.

Tickets for the much-anticipated face-off between Ireland’s gold medal-winning Olympian and world light-welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron went on sale Tuesday morning.

Between 8,000 and 9,000 people are expected to attend the bout, taking place on May 20 at Dublin’s 3Arena.

But within minutes after 10am, all of the €80 (£70) tickets – the cheapest available – were sold out on Ticketmaster.

The remaining tickets were priced from €511 (£447) to €1,525 (£1,335).

Fans took to social media complaining of issues after trying to secure a seat through Ticketmaster, while others shared their grievances with the prices.

One Taylor supporter wrote: ‘Did anybody successfully buy tickets for the Katie Taylor fight?’

Another said: ‘I refuse to believe that Katie Taylor is fully sold out with tickets at €1,500 for one.’

An enraged woman also wrote: ‘3arena obviously too small a venue for Katie Taylor fight….already reselling for triple the price.’

One other fan explained her plight, writing: ‘In the waiting room for Katie Taylor tickets since 9:45 – it still says I’m in the waiting room and there’s seven minutes before it will allow me to join the queue.

‘Went to one minute at one stage, now it keeps going up.’

Another fan explained: ‘On Ticketmaster since 7:30am waiting for tickets out at 10am. Logged in on four separate devices on two different accounts. Couldn’t even get one ticket for the Katie Taylor fight.’

Last week, Irish boxing fans vented their frustration at the cost of tickets, which range from €80 (£70) to around €1,500 (£1,313) for a VIP ringside seat.

In comparison, tickets for the world title fight between Bernard Dunne and Ricardo Cordoba in the then O2 Arena in 2009 started at just €50 (£44).

It had been widely speculated that Taylor's long-awaited professional homecoming would take place in Croke Park. However, negotiations with the GAA reached a standstill

It had been widely speculated that Taylor’s long-awaited professional homecoming would take place in Croke Park.

However, negotiations with the GAA reached a standstill, resulting in the fight being organised at the 3Arena instead – a much smaller venue than Croker in terms of capacity.

Bray native Taylor, 36, was originally planning to face Amanda Serrano in a rematch following their 19,000 sell-out fight at Madison Square Garden in New York last year.

However, the challenger later withdrew from the fight due to injury.
