Rumors of Keanu Reeves joining the MCU have been circulating for a long while now, and The Matrix Resurrection star addressed them in a new video
The question of when Keanu Reeves will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe is like asking what is the meaning of life, and you are probably more likely to get an answer to the latter long before the former. It is not too long ago that Kevin Feige confessed that he offers Reeves a role in “almost every film we make”, and it is surely only a matter of time before the John Wick and Matrix star makes an appearance in the biggest movie narrative of all time.
So far rumors have linked Reeves to roles in the upcoming Moon Knight series and as Kraven The Hunter in the Sony Spider-Man Universe – which is technically part of the MCU these days – but these have proven to be pretty flimsy in their evidence and have been taken with a pinch of salt. However, one day there will be one of these whisperings that turns out to be true, as according to Reeves himself it would be something he would love to be part of.
In a video for Esquire, Reeves was responding to fan questions including one about when he would be finally joining the MCU. The much-loved actor responded by saying:
“Isn’t it bigger than a universe? It’s almost like a Multiverse. It’s a Marvel-verse. It would be an honor. There’s some really amazing directors and visionaries, and they’re doing something that no one’s really ever done. It’s special in that sense, in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. So it would be cool to be a part of that.”
So far, Reeves popularity has probably been the main reason for him not having taken a role within the Marvel world, as according to reports, scheduling conflicts with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Reeves had to turn down the role of Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel, the role that would end up going to Jude Law. In Hollywood there are times when an actor can just be too good at what they do to be able to take part in everything that their fans, or indeed themselves, would like and Reeves is that good.
However, it shouldn’t be too much of a worry just yet that we will never get to see him make his MCU debut as there is a lot still to come from the expanding multiverse, including the arrival of the X-Men which is going to see a lot of new faces joining the line-up and there is every chance that Reeves could be one of them. Back in 2019 he even mentioned in two separate interviews that he always wanted to play Wolverine as a child but believes that he is now too old for that, but it is a good sign that he could have some role to play in the X-Men’s MCU debut.
For now, Reeves fans will be content to see the 57 year old reprising his role as Neo in The Matrix Resurrections this Christmas, as well as returning as John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 4 next year.
