Following the Lakers’ playoff exit this week, LeBron James admit that he has a lot to think about regarding his future in the NBA.
“I got a lot to think about, to be honest, and just for me personally going forward the game of basketball, I got a lot to think about,” James told reporters.
James’ postgame comments immediately sparked retirement rumors. ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins isn’t buying it though.
During this Friday’s edition of “First Take,” Perkins said there’s “no way in hell” James will retire this offseason. He listed a few reasons why he’s confident about it.
“I know he didn’t believe that his damn self,” Perkins said. “Let me tell you why. LeBron James loves money too much. He’s so tight when it comes to money. You know how much money he’d be leaving on the table?
“…There’s no way in hell that LeBron’s leaving without a farewell tour. He’s going to announce it, and rightfully so. He earned it. That message was straight delivered to Rob Pelinka, Jeanie Buss and the front office to make sure they do everything they need to do this offseason and not wait until the trade deadline.”

Perkins was teammates with James in Cleveland, so he knows how the four-time MVP operates.
Regardless if James retires or not, he’s expected to undergo foot surgery this offseason. He played through this postseason with a torn tendon in his foot.
