Kepa Arrizabalaga says he and his Chelsea teammates need to ‘look at ourselves and improve’ after they suffered another blow in the Premier League title race by drawing to Brighton.

Adam Webster’s second-half header cancelled out Hakim Ziyech’s first-half opener at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday night as Brighton secured a well-deserved point.

While the hosts are now unbeaten in six games in all competitions under highly-rated Graham Potter, Chelsea have only won one of their last seven league games, slipping 12 points behind leaders Manchester City, who also have a game in hand.

‘We need points because we want to be on top of the league, but we have to look at ourselves, improve and step up,’ Blues goalkeeper Kepa told Chelsea TV.

‘We have another big game on Sunday, a London derby, and from there we go.

‘We are honest. We are in good positions in all the competitions – we are in the Champions League, we have the League Cup final and the World Club Cup – but in the Premier League we have dropped points in the last month.

‘We have to get back to winning ways because everybody is coming [up behind us].’

Kepa, standing in for Edouard Mendy during his spell at the Africa Cup of Nations, produced a superb save to deny Alexis Mac Allister but was helpless to prevent Webster from equalising shortly after.

‘Of course there is disappointment and frustration,’ the Spaniard added. ‘We only got a point because they scored from a set-piece.

‘We worked a lot, we ran a lot, but in small details we lost two points. Set-pieces are about concentration, about focus and taking your man.

‘We have to look at ourselves, not outside, and improve. There is not one solution. We are working on it, trying to find solutions.’

Kepa also praised Brighton after Potter’s side drew 1-1 with Chelsea for the second time in 21 days.

It was Danny Welbeck who earned the Seagulls a point at Stamford Bridge on December 29 after Romelu Lukaku headed the Blues in front.

Frustration was building at the Amex earlier in the season but Brighton have enjoyed an impressive run to climb to ninth in the Premier League.

Kepa said: ‘We are not happy of course, we dropped two points and we didn’t play well.

‘In both games, at home and here, we scored first and were in a good position to control the game, but they played a very physical game, one against one in all the pitch.

‘It’s not easy to control the game against Brighton. You have space behind the line, you have a chance to go one against one, but in the same way they have those chances.

‘It was a very open game. We had to create more chances. We had opportunities near the box to go one against one, to shoot, and maybe that’s something we have to improve.’

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Sunday against London rivals Tottenham, while Brighton travel to Leicester City on the same day.
