Kevin Durant had a request for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver: Kindly remove marijuana from the banned substance list.

In an interview with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin, Durant said that he spoke to Silver and made that very request to him. He said that the stigma behind weed isn’t as bad as it once was, does not affect people negatively and is “like wine” from a cultural standpoint.

“I actually called him and advocated for him to take marijuana off the banned substance list,” Durant said, via Mediaite. “I just felt like it was becoming a thing around the country, around the world; that this stigma behind it wasn’t as negative as it was before. It doesn’t affect you in any negative way.”

Durant also joked that he smoked up before meeting with Silver, so he “didn’t have to say much” from an advocacy standpoint.

“So I didn’t really have to say much,” Durant continued. “He kind of understood where this was going. It’s the NBA, man… Everybody does it, to be honest. It’s like wine at this point.”

Kevin Durant’s talk bore fruit.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, players will no longer be tested for marijuana and they’ll also be allowed to invest in cannabis companies.

Well done, KD.
