Kevin Durant has never shied away from clapping back at somebody on Twitter, as evidenced by his latest back-and-forth with Stephen A. Smith.
The latest episode began when the perennial all-star quote-tweeted a segment of First Take in which Stephen A. argued that Michael Jordan changed basketball for the worse, saying that he believes Smith, Skip Bayless, and Shannon Sharpe did the same thing.
“My theory is that guys like steve, skip and Shannon have changed the game for the worse,” Durant tweeted. “Playas like Stephen and Michael can only push the game forward.”
Stephen A. responded to KD’s tweet by saying that sports commentators like himself and his counterparts aren’t “going away.”
Durant fittingly quoted that tweet with a commonly used meme of Stephen A. Smith saying that “we don’t care.”
Durant and Smith have had a contentious relationship as of late. Most recently, Smith said KD’s legacy could be defined by his decision to bolt from the Warriors and sign with the Brooklyn Nets.
“If these brothers [Nets] do not win the championship, do you understand that Kevin Durant is on the verge for being recognized more so for the guy that left Steph Curry to go with Kyrie Irving than for the 2 chips and the 2 Finals MVPs?” Smith said on a recent episode of First Take.
Durant took to social media to call Smith’s comments “egregious,” and accused him of pushing his “personal agenda.”
“Steve, since u decided to use ESPN to push your personal agendas, I’m sure your minions will run with this story for you, but if u believe this is what my career is defined by then you just a flat out hater,” Durant tweeted. “It’s gonna be hard to box the god in.”
