Kevin Feige has revealed more details about Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross in the MCU, including how he is now an elevated position of power.

Kevin Feige has shared his excitement at welcoming Harrison Ford into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as revealing some details about how Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross’s status in the MCU has been elevated since his last appearance. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about 2024’s Captain America: New World Order, Feige addressed Ford’s dedication to the role, and how the actor brings a new dynamic to the Marvel Universe. He said:

“We start filming relatively soon. I’m sure anyone you’ve ever talked with about Harrison Ford says this, but it’s unbelievable that we get to meet and talk with him and that he’s embracing this role. He’s tireless with the amount of work that he does. This is certainly a big part for Thaddeus Ross. He’s the president of the United States in the film. And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There’s a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we’ll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is just incredible. This has been a dream for years, ever since Jon Favreau cast Harrison Ford in Cowboys and Aliens. I was always very jealous of that, so to have him finally in the MCU is just incredible. It’s like, I can cross that off the wishlist.”

Harrison Ford is currently promoting his final outing as Henry Jones Jr in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but he will soon be heading into filming his first outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he takes over from the late William Hurt playing Thaddeus Ross. However, when asked why he was joining the franchise at the age of 80, the actor said that he couldn’t really say. He commented:

“I don’t know. I can’t explain myself to myself, I just work here. (Laughs.) I thought, “Everybody else seems to be having a great time.” I watch all these terrific actors having a good time [in Marvel movies]. I like doing something different to what I’ve ever done and pleasing people with it. So I’ll try a piece of that.”

As well as taking on a presidential role in Captain America: New World Order, Ford’s Ross is also set to appear in Thunderbolts, and as that movie arrives after the former it seems that President Ross could be the one who orders the assembly of the Thunderbolts team, which includes Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). How the stories of these two, heavily political movies will impact the MCU’s future is something that will all become clear next year when both movies arrive in cinemas.
