The LX HEV ($29,995) includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and features driver aids like blind spot collision avoidance. An upgrade to the EX, starting at $31,995, unlocks Kia Connect, wireless charging, and you get a 10.25 infotainment screen in the dashboard. Another bump up in price gets you the the EX premium option ($34,695) that includes a power liftgate and sunroof. The premium SX model ($38,695) comes with all the above, as well as Harmon Kardon premium speakers, a head-up display, and digital key two-touch — a feature that lets you unlock your car with your smartphone.

The second variation offered for the 2023 Niro is the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Unlike the HEV option, the 2023 Niro PHEV EX stands alone in the PHEV category with a starting price of $37,995. However, it offers many of the same features as the HEV EX, including Kia Connect, wireless charging, and more.

In April, Kia unveiled the new-gen SUV at the New York Auto Show confirming the three electric powertrains. The hybrid houses a 1.6L four-cylinder engine with electric motor, making 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The PHEV pairs that hybrid engine with a 62-kW electric motor that makes 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The PHEV Niro has an estimated driving range of 53 km off a full charge. The Niro EV uses a 64.8-kWh battery and 150-kW (201 horsepower) electric motor, and has an estimated range of 407 km on a charge.

Buyers can expect a wide range of safety features, including highway-drive assist, rear occupant alert and blind spot collision avoidance assist. It also has rear cross-traffic and forward-collision avoidance assistance, with junction turning.

The 2023 Kia Niro is the fourth vehicle launched by the automaker under its Plan S strategy — a commitment from the brand to offer 11 electric vehicles (EV) by 2025. All three trims of the 2023 Kia Niro will be available at Canadian dealerships in spring 2023.
