In April, Kia unveiled the new-gen SUV at the New York Auto Show confirming the three electric powertrains. The hybrid houses a 1.6L four-cylinder engine with electric motor, making 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The PHEV pairs that hybrid engine with a 62-kW electric motor that makes 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The PHEV Niro has an estimated driving range of 53 km off a full charge. The Niro EV uses a 64.8-kWh battery and 150-kW (201 horsepower) electric motor, and has an estimated range of 407 km on a charge.
Buyers can expect a wide range of safety features, including highway-drive assist, rear occupant alert and blind spot collision avoidance assist. It also has rear cross-traffic and forward-collision avoidance assistance, with junction turning.
The 2023 Kia Niro is the fourth vehicle launched by the automaker under its Plan S strategy — a commitment from the brand to offer 11 electric vehicles (EV) by 2025. All three trims of the 2023 Kia Niro will be available at Canadian dealerships in spring 2023.
