Kim Cattrall had one condition when she agreed to appear in And Just Like That

Sex and the City fans rejoiced when it was revealed that Kim Cattrall had reprised her role as Samantha Jones for a short scene in And Just Like That Season 2. After initially vowing to never return to the franchise, it was recently announced that the actress has filmed a solo scene for an upcoming episode, that will feature her talking on the phone to Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw.

And as any SATC fan will know, there have long been reports on Sarah Jessica and Kim’s real-life feud – with the latter speaking openly about their tense relationship off-screen. So, what is it that finally tempted Kim back to the franchise?

During an appearance on US panel show The View, Kim admitted that she asked the series’ network, HBO, for one special thing before agreeing to return. “It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?’ And I went, ‘Hmm…,’” she revealed. “’Let me get creative,’ and one of those things was to get Pat Field back because I just thought that if I’m going to come back, I gotta come back with that Samantha style. I gotta push it and we did.”

Kim and fashion stylist Patricia Field – who styled the original Sex And The City series – have a close relationship, and are currently working together on the actress’ new hit LGBTQ+ Netflix series, Glamorous.

According to MailOnline, Sarah Jessica Parker praised Kim Cattrall’s unexpected return to the show, revealing that the idea stemmed from celebrating Sex and the City‘s 25th anniversary this year. “She had surfaced in the first season, but this is simply taking those texts and it puts a face with it. A gorgeous face, that we love, and that the audience has loved,” she is quoted as telling Australian breakfast show Sunrise. “It’s just a quick pop. It’s just a phone call. And it’s very much familiar. ”

Meanwhile, Cynthia Nixon, who portrays Miranda Hobbes, recently got candid about how it was filming And Just Like That Season one without Samantha’s character. “We all love each other, we love our show, we wanted to do more of it,” she told Vanity Fair. “And we all wanted to be there. So that makes an enormous difference, that you’re not walking around on eggshells with someone who’s unhappy for reasons that are hard to even understand what they are.”

While it seems there is still ice to thaw among the cast members, we can’t wait to welcome Samantha Jones back to our screens, even if it is just for a flying visit.
