Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner call out Instagram for ‘copying TikTok’, and the app’s CEO has responded

Listen, if anyone is going to know anything about Instagram (outside of those who directly work for the company), it’s going to be the Kardashian-Jenners. So when Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner spoke out this week to ‘plead’ with the social media platform to “make Instagram Instagram again”, we stood up – still holding our phones, obv – and took notice.

The duo, who are both prolific users of Instagram and have already built up big followings on TikTok too, made their feelings clear on the direction they would like the apps to take – and to implore the former to stay true to themselves (good life advice for all of us).

Kylie kicked things off by sharing a viral graphic, originally shared by the @illuminati account, captioned: “I’m starting a movement. Let’s bring back the old instagram, share this to your stories and SIGN MY PETITION. LINK ON MY STORY. SHARE THIS EVERYWHEREEEEE LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO.”

The image in question says: “Make Instagram Instagram again. Stop trying to be TikTok I just want to see cute photos of my friends. Sincerely, Everyone.”

The 24-year-old shared the post on her Instagram Story, adding: “PLEASEEEEEEE”.

Kim Kardashian, ever the supportive sister, then also made her feelings known about the new Instagram update by sharing the same image on her own Instagram Story to her 326 million followers, with the caption: “PRETTY PLEASE”. Elder Kardashian sister, Kourtney also shared the graphic, which has now amassed 1.9 million likes in only four days.

And here is where the true power of celebrity comes in because, unlike you or I, when the Kardashian-Jenners (who have an impressive 686 million followers between them) speak up, the powers that be listen. Instagram’s actual CEO, Adam Mosseri, has released a video in response to the backlash toward the latest app update, explaining that the plan for the social platform moving forward is much more video based.

So that’s why we’ve just been seeing endless reels on our explore page, rather than our ex-boyfriend’s cousin’s sister who we once stalked seven years ago. Bummer.
