Kim Kardashian reveals she’s finally ‘at peace’ with imperfections: “There does come a point when you’ve taken it too far”

In a brand new interview, Kim Kardashian has revealed that despite “genuinely caring about looking good”, she is finally “at peace” with being imperfect, something she has previously struggled to accept. 

A considerable emphasis has been placed on Kim’s image since her rise to fame, whether it was her famous curves hailed as the “body ideal”, her flawlessly contoured make-up looks or her trendsetting sartorial choices, the 41-year-old’s physical appearance has been constantly scrutinised for years, including by herself. 

And while Kim has built herself a fortune (she’s currently worth $1.8 billion) off the back of her image – a make-up line, perfumes, shapewear range, and most recently, her skincare line SKKN have all proved a hit with fans – her triumphs haven’t come without their critics. Given the huge influence she has had, and currently has, on young women, Kim K has frequently been criticised for her “unattainable” beauty standards and for not recognising her privilege when it comes to achieving her success. 

Among the backlash, Kim has been criticised for digitally altering her bikini snaps, with critics questioning the impact this might have on impressionable young girls. Kim was also famously ridiculed earlier this year for telling women if they wanted to achieve success like her, to just “get up and work”, with many accusing her of failing to realise her privilege,. She has since apologised for the comment. 

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. However, while it has been all systems go for the mum-of-four since that first unassuming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2007, the reality star is now in a position to reflect on her public primped and preened persona. She is keen on taking a bit of a step back and slow down – revealing that while her love for “looking good” will always be there, she realises that she wants to “look appropriate” for her age, and the changes in her body show that she has “lived life.”

“I’m at peace with not being perfect, and I wasn’t like that before,” the star told Allure during her cover-story interview for the August issue of the magazine. Referencing her hands – which she famously criticised in a vintage episode of KUWTK – as an example, Kim explained: “I hate my hands – they’re wrinkly and gross. But I’ve lived life, and I’ve changed so many diapers with these hands, and I’ve snuggled my babies with these hands, so I’m okay with them.”

The reality star added that her getting older “doesn’t mean that [she] won’t strive for perfection,” but, she pointed out, “you get to a point where you’re like, ‘Okay, my health is more important than anything else.'”

And she also pointed out that her quest for ‘perfection’ didn’t mean that she isn’t aware of the difference between wanting to look her best and an “unhealthy level of feeling like [she] can’t age”: “I’m 41. I always want to look appropriate. There does come a point when you’ve taken it too far — overfilled, too tight, too much cosmetic work. There’s nothing worse.”
